Reading Toolkit using modern iPhone Apps

These resources include a modernised, iphone style, reading toolkit to aid and develop the children’s understanding of which reading skills they are using and how to approach questions linked to the 10 domains of reading. Each app represents a reading skill and is referred to each time a question is discussed. Also included are all the apps individually so that they can be printed or added to comprehension and guided reading question sheets. Also included is an example of how these apps link to end of year expectations - year 4 in this example.

The Reading Toolkit splits the reading skills into 10 key domains;

10. Structure

In our school we have laminated the toolkit and the children discuss which skill they are using. The Reading Toolkit can be used across all year groups within the school to ensure consistency and allow for skill progression. In our school KS1 children are exposed to the reading toolkit from Reception with skills being introduced as their knowledge and understanding develops.
