This is part of a comic book series: “The Adventures of Captain O’Scampi”
- This lesson is all about adverbs and friendship.
- It comes with a comprehensive lesson/s and an activity booklet to go with the presentation.
- The lesson is introduced by the comic: ‘Captain O’Scampi Meets Schäfi Schafington’.
- The lesson then contains: reading comprehension, grammar explanation, gap fills, translations, vocabulary learning strategies (flashcards/mindmaps), written task - describe a photo, written 90 word task into a comic strip.
The comics have been designed for the new AQA/Edexcel GCSE 2024, however, they can be used for anyone learning German.
Themes:
- They cover the themes common to both exam boards
- The activities are done in the style of the exam boards: questions and answers are in English, there are gap fills, multiple choice comprehension questions, and in every lesson, there are exam style writing tasks: describe a photo, and a 90 word task.

- The comics each feature a more challenging grammar point, which the mnemonic O’Scampi spells out:
- O (opinions), S (subjunctive), C (cases), A (adjectives & adverbs), M (modals), P (Perfect), I (imperfect)

Captain O’Scampi is a mnemonic to remember the key grammar points to get a higher level at GCSE. There are comics for each of letter of his name with a corresponding grammar point: O = opinions, S = subjunctive, C = Cases, A = adjectives and adverbs, M = modals, P = perfect, I = imperfect. The comics have been designed to cover the themes common to both AQA and Edexcel for the new GCSE 2024 and also the more challenging grammar points common to both. I absolutely love Captain O'Scampi and so do my students! The booklet is a real time saver and the activities are fun. The students really enjoyed creating their own comic at the end.
