These resources have been designed for Entry Level 3 students working towards Functional Skills English qualifications at Level 1 (Edexcel-Pearson, NCFE, City and Guilds, AQA, Highfield Qualifications, NOCN, Open Awards). It contains an 80-slide PowerPoint lesson and a 30-page task book on speaking, listening and communicating.
These resources will help students to achieve these outcomes:
communicate information, ideas and opinions clearly and accurately on a
range of topics
express opinions and arguments supported with evidence
follow and understand discussions and make contributions relevant to the
situation and the subject
use appropriate phrases, registers and adapt contributions to take account of
audience, purpose and medium
respect the turn-taking rights of others during discussion
The resources will help students to successfully prepare for the speaking, listening and communication discussion and presentation tasks. They explain in detail what is involved in the speaking, listening and communicating exam and the outcomes on which assessment is made.
Both resources give advice and tips on how to make a successful presentation and how to contribute to group discussions. The PowerPoint and task book contain five topics for group discussion and templates for preparing for the discussion. Advice and templates are also provided for preparing and delivering a presentation. The task book is available in PDF and an editable PowerPoint version.
