Written specifically to refine students’ inference, develop vocabulary and confidence with handling SATs style questions; this two lesson resource is based on the poem Island Man, a challenging poem that was previously included within the legacy GCSE anthology. Resource 1 builds familiarity and confidence with the poem; developing vocabulary, understanding and inference. Resource 2 enables students to work more specifically on exam style questions, optional scaffolding and sentence openers included. Suggested answers also provided.
This resource is part of a series of resources that I have developed as a consultant and used in schools to support preparation for the Y6 SATs Reading Paper. The resources have been used with intervention withdrawal groups as well as larger classes and have been successful in driving standards and results up across a number of schools.
