Spelling tests each have 10 spellings (will go to 20 after Christmas).
First 5 spellings are based around the rule in the title - which we focused on that week. Second 5 spellings are from the statutory spellings for Year 5/6 and 3/4.
Spellings aren’t sent home with children to mimic SATs - children found over the course of the year they used rules much more and felt much less worried about the actual test they were having as they were so used to the format!

A good resource - like many teachers I sit and make up sentences in SATs-style to help my pupils learn the Year 5/6 spellings, and this resource gives the type of sentence that come up in the SATs. They are also 'themed', with focuses on suffixes for example. Thank you emilyeweston
