I first used this lesson with a lower ability year 8 group and was amazed at the positive lively response. It is only a short PowerPoint but easily fills a lesson. Having found a very large hand print, the height of the “giant” needs to be calculated by scale from student hand size and student height. Then objects need to be measured and scaled up. You will need rulers, a means of measuring student heights, a measuring tape, a cup, and a plate. The last slide is a photograph taken at a model village “Could this be the same giant?” Enjoy!
