5 full lessons on preparing for the next phase of life after school (post-16).

1 - Why work? Why should you be focused on getting a job, how does income work? This includes a break down of wages based on the average salary and what you would like to buy in daily life.

2 - How do you get where you want to go? A comparison of sixth form, college and school as well as overviews on university and apprenticeships.

3 - Behind the scenes jobs This lesson encourages students to think about the jobs in the same field as their passion. For example, if you are interested in football, you don’t just have the option of footballer, but also retail in the stadium, managers, security, contractors, camera man and much much more. It focuses on opening student’s eyes to the vast array of jobs and to then start planning some idea based on lesson 2.

4 - Getting a job, the skills of communication How do you actually get and apply to a job? What’s the difference between a CV and a cover letter and what should be included on each? How do interviews work and how can you effectively communicate your ideas to help you get the job? How do you leave a job you don’t like?

5- Skills in the workplace A general lesson focused on key skills and linking them to jobs. What are skills, how do you develop them and how can you show employers you are effective with them?

Plus - Bonus Activities to choose from to help your students develop skills they need, these include exploring jobs on job explorer websites if a computer is handy, and additional skills slides you can use to swap out ideas from earlier lessons.

Each lesson comes with information in the notes as to how activities work, prompts to support, and some expected ideas.
Each lesson also has an activity based on building skills, such as resilience and communication.
