Science reading comprehension can be engaging! This reading comprehension for science discusses the topic of killer whales. Along with the reading passage are science reading comprehension worksheets, containing questions that align with the reading passage. There is also an application question to get the students showcasing their understanding.

My passion for science literacy is what has lead me to develop a range of science reading comprehension worksheet, as it is important for students to be able to access nonfiction reading comprehension outside of their English lessons.

This lesson plan is designed to get students enjoying reading about science and applying what they have learned.

The focus of the passage is on the killer whale including answering questions like:

  • What does killer whale eat?

  • Are killer whale endangered?

Included in this resource is:

  • Killer whale facts reading passage (3 pages)
  • Student worksheet, including exit ticket (2 pages)
  • Lesson plan (1 page)
  • Teacher reflection (1 page)

Ideas for using this resource:

  • Team work: they read together and work together on the questions
  • As a part of a literacy centre
  • Individual task: for early finishers/as homework
  • Class task: taking it in turns to read together, before completing the worksheets in pairs/individually
