Normally used in year 4. Two main activities. Children sort different items into tables saying which state they are. Then they describe the main properties of each state with a diagram of the particles. An extension asks what state custard and jelly are. Role play is used as children pretend to be particles for different states. The role play and/or picture sorting activity can be skipped if not enough time. Or the picture activity can be done quickly as a class together.
