What could be better than a great song to talk about a topic as important as smartphone and social networking addiction?

This lesson is quite complete because it works on the 4 skills in different ways but with the same material. You can see a short preview just below.

Speaking about the song “mon précieux” by Soprano.

Before playing the song, show a photo of Soprano and ask your students to take a quiz about him. As soon as they have answered, you can move on to the introduction. This is very important because in order to answer the questions, the use of the vocabulary of new technologies will be necessary. This will make it easier to understand the song.

Here is the clip you will be working on in your EFL class.

Listening of the song.

The appearance of this exercise is first of all visual. This first approach will allow a clearer comprehension of the rest of the song, which is the main part of the exercise. The students will be faced with scenes that they will have to classify in order of appearance.
Then, the serious thing begins. They will watch the second part of the clip to answer the questions asked later. The questions are related to social networking addiction.

Reading about smartphone addiction.

When the listening is complete, students will fill in gaps in the lyrics of the song. They will see a list of vocabulary to use to find the correct missing element.

Writing about the smartphone addiction.

If you want to provide homework to your learners, this exercise is perfect. The character in the clip is so crazy about his phone that he wants to marry it. Your learners have to write a letter or an email to him telling him how he could live without his phone. This task should be adapted according to the level of your students, because with B1s you can do it in the conditional tense.

Please comment on how you have adapted this resource, it will help the FLIPPIZZ community.

If you want to go more deeply into this topic at an intermediate level, I recommend this comprehensive resource on new technologies.
