KS3 English lesson on statues and writing to explain, that focuses on key features of writing to explain, including using a neutral tone, offering multiple perspectives, using key facts and opinions and structuring and organisation their texts. It uses examples such as the toppling of the Edward Colston statue and the monuments dedicated to The Beatles, Women of Steel, Francis Drake and Admiral Nelson to generate debate and discussion that then feeds into students creating their own non-fiction texts. Includes differentiated activities, model examples, notes for students and teachers and more. Really useful for English KS3 students but also adaptable for AQA English Language Paper 2 Question 5. Fully differentiated throughout.
