This is a resource from Flipped Around Physics on the stopping distance of vehicles. The worksheet uses graphs to visually show the effect of speed and reaction time on braking distance. Students will need to calculate their own reaction times in one of the activities. They can do this using the ‘dropped metre rule’ technique. Just convert from distance dropped (d) in meters to time (t), using t=sqrt[2d/9.8]. Else tell students to use t=0.2s. Students are asked to consider the other factors involved in braking distance.
