This is a 79-page unit of work on the Australian classic “Storm Boy” by Colin Thiele. I have used this text with both Stage Two and Stage Three students as a read-aloud as well as a Reader’s Circle text.
It contains a comprehensive teacher guide with chapter-by-chapter discussion questions. These can be used either as verbal discussion points in a Reader’s Circle session, or as independent worksheets to consolidate student understanding of the text. There are also research points in this resource which can be used independently, and a focus on personification. An answer guide is also included.
Also included are ten literacy centre task cards, all designed for independent consolidation of concepts. These are cross-curricular and high-engagement with a degree of student choice. All printables are also included.
There is also a Powerpoint of additional resources, including a background to the text, about the Coorong area and Colin Thiele, as well as his inspiration for writing the text. This section also includes vocabulary tasks and a mini lesson on similes.
