As a year 6 teacher last year, I wanted to make sure that my class were familiar with all the national curriculum spellings. To aid this, I wrote a shockingly bad story that contains every single word in that year 3/4 list and 5/6 list (or variations of the words, so privileged rather than privilege). No longer would children write sentences such as “My mother works for accompany”. Once they’ve heard them, and practised using them in context, these words are more likely to appear in their own pieces of work.
