Checks that pupils understand how the mass number and atomic number tell us exactly how the nucleus is made up, and also that, in a neutral atom, the negative electrons must balance the positive protons. They are also asked to draw nuclei and consider what would happen if a nucleus underwent a specific change. Getting them thinking and being really clear about the learning objectives.
