Idea behind tasks; This task is to address a gap in knowledge for many of my pupils with addition. Pupils are given time to practice the key skills on the SATS paper as a revision task or consolidation task. They often get no marks when it includes a square or they start off correctly and then mess up the addition/subtraction. This is to really hammer home the style of question in the SATS exam that should definitely earn our pupil’s full marks.

Pupils choose which colour they feel confident attempting. If they are really confident they should choose green, the secure option, if they are struggling they should choose the red or amber option (foundation – basic assessment of skill, amber is a little bit harder).

Pupils show the questions, working out and answers that they have attempted in their class book.

Answers provided for each stage.
