This resource is intended for use over one half term. Students use their previous work and knowledge of the Surrealist movement (please see ‘Surrealism Introduction’ resource) to create a collage based on Surrealist landscapes. Students will work with the idea of dreams and creating a ‘dreamscape’.
Students explore collage technique and understanding of composition to create a ‘dreamscape’ collage created from magazine cut-outs. Students then scan into the computer and flip using Photoshop to create a mirrored effect - heightening the Surrealist effect.
Students will refine their understanding of key Surrealist techniques including Metamorphosis, Juxtaposition and Distortion. They will also develop their understanding of landscape composition including, background, mid-ground and foreground.
This Powerpoint resource includes:
Introduction to the history of collage technique - from Cubist to Surrealist and Dada.
Analysis and visual imagery of contemporary Surrealist collage artists working today.
Analysis of Dali’s ‘Metamorphosis of Narcissus’, developing an understanding of key elements and landscape composition.
Introduction to the final outcome ‘Dreamscape collage’ with many student examples and my own exemplar.
Key Learning Objective slides, tips and reminders.
This resource can be used in conjunction with my other Surrealism resources and homework project - Hybrid Insects.
