This is a huge, 90+ page resource designed to support the teaching of the text “Taronga” by Victor Kelleher.

Taronga is a compelling, exciting, dystopian read, perfect for a Stage 3 extension reading group or to use as a whole class text with Stage 4. It tells the story of Ben - a teenager with an unusual gift - who has survived the horror of the “Last Days” to find a group of hardened survivors living in Taronga Zoo.

The resource contains:

  • a chapter-by-chapter discussion guide, with two pages of questions for each chapter, which can be printed and used as independent work for students or as a discussion guide for teachers.

  • comprehension questions targeting different level - literal, inferential, text-to-self and text-to-world

  • questions requiring students to access different comprehension skills, including predicting, summarising, author purpose, cause and effect and more

  • an answer guide

  • a bonus “cheat sheet” for teachers which consists of a chapter-by-chapter breakdown of the events of every chapter, as well as suggested focus teaching points for deeper understanding of the text

I have many other literature-based resources (most of them Australian) in my store so feel free to check them out.

Happy reading!
