The Amazon River Adventure
Read the opening of the following story written by Johnnie Young and ask your students to continue the story. You will find that the story has been written in such a way as to engage and inspire their imaginations.
Once they have finished ask a few students to read out their work and then have a short discussion where you learn together which features of a story intrigue and engage interest. Which parts of their story can be enhanced?
It is always a great idea to get a few specific ideas for improvement and then request you students to redraft their stories. Then have a few read out and concrete improvements, however small, can be identified and focussed on and this will motivate the whole group.
