The Boat - Setting and Character

This is a combination lesson which looks at Nam Le’s 'The Boat

Initially the students need to look at an image and try and create an atmosphere through using a lexical chain which promotes a deliberate feeling or mood.
They use this as a way to create their own piece of creative writing.

This is then used to link it to Nam Le’s extact on The Boat. Following is an analytical piece of writing using specific sentence starts which examines how language is used to create a specific effect.
