The Day the Crayons Quit is a working at the expected standard reading text for Year 2. This guided reading unit is a wonderful text to use to engage reluctant readers. This reading unit is designed to support the new English Reading Framework. It is suitable for comprehension with looking, clue and thinking questions and encourages children to talk through their answers using a reciprocal approach. The resources have been designed for children to read a few letters at a time and answer literal and inference based questions. There are also other links such as poetry about crayons so that children can experience a range of genres and respond to them. Teachers can allow children to read letters written in the style of the book so there is a 'I quit' letter from the teacher for children to respond to. This work can help towards moderation and assessment purposes and evidence at the end of the year.
