This unit is three weeks and explores the text thoroughly, covering the following objectives: Identify themes, use a dictionary to find the meaning of unknown words, identify different sentence types (command, exclamation, question and statement,) proof read, edit and re-draft writing to improve it, publish writing using horizontal and diagonal strokes, identify synonyms and antonyms, identify prepositions, write direct speech using inverted commas. There are several short writing outcomes throughout the unit, leading to a longer writing outcome.
Writing outcomes intended: Monologue from POV of Rhodopis, Diary entry from POV of Rhodopis, Diary entry from POV of Pharaoh (golden slipper), Diary entry from POV of Pharaoh (journey to find owner) Retelling of the whole story using 5 steps.
There are resources for many of the lessons, including suitable resources or suggestions for SEND pupils. There are additional grammar activities to consolidate using ‘but’ and ‘whereas’, using inverted commas, writing similes, and using the co-ordinating conjunction, for.
