Summary of passage
Scientists use “The Five Kingdoms” to organize living things and understand their relationships. The Kingdom Monera consists of bacteria and single-celled organisms, some of the oldest on Earth. Kingdom Protista includes single-celled organisms with a nucleus, found in water, soil, and other living things. Kingdom Fungi cannot make their own food and obtain nutrients by breaking down dead plants and animals. Kingdom Plantae includes all plants that can perform photosynthesis. Kingdom Animalia consists of all animals that need to consume other organisms to survive. This classification system helps scientists study the relationships between different organisms. It is interesting to think about which kingdom a plant or animal belongs to when observing them.
