In this unit , we spend a lot of time focusing on the descriptive writing used by author, Ted Hughes. Discussions on how the descriptions often reflect the characters’ feelings. Big focus on identifying direct speech in a text. A powerpoint introduces each session of the unit and there is a separate powerpoint on how to create expanded noun phrases. The unit culmintes in the children writing a newspaper report describing the Space Creature’s arrival and the Iron Man’s challenge.
