The Lighthouse - English Unit Focusing On Descriptive Language Development

This English unit is inspired by The Lighthouse short film, found on The Literacy Shed. Children focus on the difference between simple and compound sentences and using expanded noun phrases. They learn to organise their ideas using a storyboard and to write paragraphs around a theme. The plan gives a day by day guide and resources are included for the seven session. Resources used to explore the use of expanded phrases involve the colour coding of adjectives, nouns, verbs and prepositional phrases to help clarify the pupils’ knowledge of these terms. PowerPoint presentations are included, which carefully go through the process of structuring expanded noun phrases.
