The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane - 9 reading lessons

This resource has 9 guided reading lessons for Year 3&4 for the wonderful story ‘The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane’.

The activities in the lesson are based on the ‘Reading for Real’ programme, which I was lucky enough to do training on two years ago. The lessons focus on a mixture of questions and activities to create a love of reading and getting a deeper understanding of the story, such as hot-seating and ranking the characters.

In our school, during the lessons with questions we focus on three questions and expect in-depth answers. We discuss the questions before answering in books. The children then do a ‘challenge’ question which requires deeper thinking, giving personal opinions or relating the book back to their own lives.

This is one of the best children’s books that I’ve read and I hope you enjoy the planning unit.
