This is a great fun lesson I have used with Year 6 to investigate the death of Thomas Becket.

The best way to do this is to find a willing volunteer and use some masking tape to make the imprint of a body on the floor of your classroom or somewhere in the building. Print the suspect sheet and place these around the building or classroom.

When the pupils come in, set the scene for a crime scene investigation.

Give the pupils their evidence sheet and send them in pairs to find out information about who was to blame. You can send them in pairs and do a map from memory exercise if you wish.

When the pupils come back in share ideas about who is guilty or to blame. Maybe there are different answers here…

Give the pupils the summary sheet and get the pupils to prepare their own CSI video report, or if you do not have devices, pupils can produce a crime report.

A good fun lesson which is engaging for Year 6 pupils but would work well with Year 7 also.
