Penguins have appeal. This unit can be used from Primary to Secondary levels. You can introduce the Adelies by projecting the page and discussing the photographs. At more senior levels discuss issues of adaptation and threats. Take your students from the ship MV Explorer (Sunk a year after these photos) to Paulet Island. Step ashore and meet these inquisitive penguins. Watch them gather on the ice floes as they prepare for diving into the sea. Meet Peter and Peg as Peter struggles to build his rock nest. Find out the reason why so many eggs are destroyed and why many young penguin chicks do not reach the maturity needed for them to be part of the annual migration north of Antarctica.
