This comprehension is designed to stretch the vocabulary of your students, using a passage containing lots of sophisticated language and asking the students to define these unfamiliar words from their contexts. This can easily be adapted into a dictionary activity.
This is followed by some comprehension questions which encourage the students to search for quotes in the text that support their own opinions.
The last exercise is a writing prompt taken from the passage, asking the students to write about a time they felt similar to the main character in the passage. It will get the students to plan out a piece of writing which could then either be carried out in the lesson or set for homework.
