Want to find a fun, cross-curricular way to teach coordinates on the four-quadrant grid? This lesson fuses together the myth of Theseus and the Minotaur with the key maths concept of reading coordinates using the four quadrants and using directional language.

After an input that includes how to read coordinates in the four quadrants and retelling the myth of Theseus and the Minotaur, the children are challenged to help Theseus escape the labyrinth using plotted coordinates. As an extension, children are encouraged to role play as Theseus and Ariadne to act out the escape route using a larger marked area.

A fantastic introduction to reading and plotting coordinates in the four quadrant grid, which works particularly well if also studying the Ancient Greeks!
