Want to find a fun, cross-curricular way to teach position and direction? This lesson fuses together the myth of Theseus and the Minotaur with the key maths concepts of reading simple coordinates and using directional language such as clockwise/anti-clockwise, quarter/half/three-quarter turns.
After an input that includes how to read coordinates in the first quadrant, positional and directional language and the myth of Theseus and the Minotaur, the children are challenged to role play as Theseus and Ariadne. Can they use their learning of position, direction and coordinates to help Theseus escape the labyrinth?
A fantastic introduction to coordinates which works particularly well if also studying the Ancient Greeks!
