I am a Support for Learning Teacher and work with children between the ages of 7 and 10 to develop fluency in reading. The pupils I work require support to recognise phonics and this can hinder their fluency. There is an abundance of wonderful resources for infants but most were too young for older pupils, for my pupils to engage I needed to ensure the content was at an appropriate level of interest. I devised the resource with older learners in mind, with opportunities to develop reading strategies, develop word attack skills and develop new vocabulary. I used this over a time period of 8 days for 15 minutes a day and have seen an increase in reading fluency, engagement in reading and attainment in reading. I hope you find the resources useful and this saves you time searching for individual activities. They are a good basis for you to add your own sparkle and creativity!
