Thank you for looking at my resource.

In this resource children will focus on the importance of a noun in a sentence.

Children will do a variety of carefully thought out small step tasks to build up their understanding of what a noun is and how to apply nouns to sentences.

Resource includes a PPT and corresponding task sheets.

Children will start by completing a rewind task (task based on prior learning) which will include children thinking about the importance of full stops. A chilli challenge is provided to ensure that all children are supported.

Children will then complete a task which will not only teach that a sentence must contain a noun but illustrate the importance of nouns in a sentence. The task will involve a identifying a picture with a sentence that only provides a verb.

After this children, will look at the definition of a noun and as a class will be shown a list of words and decide if they are a noun or not. Explanation will be provided if it is/isn’t a noun.

Children will complete independent/helping hands task 1 - Tick the nouns. As with all tasks, a chilli challenge is provided to all learners to expand their learning.

Children will then move onto writing nouns into sentences where they need to fill the gap in. Children will complete independent/helping hands task 2.

Finally, children will be provided with a picture of a park and a verb word bank. They will start by creating sentences with a partner then move onto independent/helping hands task 3.

Simple Sentence Construction

Thank you for looking at my resource. Each lesson Includes a fully comprehensive Powerpoint, worksheets adapted to a range of learners and a resources overview. Lesson 1 - To know sentences must contain a noun. Lesson 2 - To know sentences must contain a verb. All lessons start with active rewind (recap) tasks. These provide an informal assessment for teachers, remind children of their prior learning to help learning go into their long term memory and put relevant prior learning in the forefront of children’s minds as they acquire new learning. Children will have stem sentences to support oracy throughout. Every task has a helping hands task. This aims to remove barriers to children accessing the main task such as using stem sentences to allow children to focus on their learning not the structuring of sentences. The chilli challenge should be provided to all learners the ’ differentiation ’ will be based on how children complete the task. Children will develop a conceptual understanding of both nouns and verbs. They will learn the importance of nouns and verbs by experiencing sentences where one is absent. They will continue to explore nouns and verbs learning what they are and aren't. Children will have each individual task modelled and be provided with many opportunities to practice as a whole class/partner task. Each lesson's tasks are divided into three tasks. Task 1 - To identify either individual words or sentences. Task 2 - To write in a scaffold. Task 3 - To write sentences using a picture prompt.
