Starter:
- To use short division.
- To identify different long division methods.
Main Lesson:
- To divide numbers up to 4 digits by a two-digit whole number using the formal written method of long division (Year 6)
-To use division including formal written methods, applying it to integers and decimals, (KS3)
This lesson consists of:
A starter focusing on using applying long division and a connect starter reviewing prior learning with regard to long division methods
An Interactive Whiteboard teaching introduction for both Notebook and ActivInspire, to teach three different long division methods and to assess the children’s ability to solve long division problems when applied to decimal numbers.
A 4 way differentiated series of calculations where children are expected to solve a series long division of decimal numbers (including a Challenge Activity where children divided by decimal numbers), and two Word Problem per ability group. Answers are supplied to ease marking.
An AFL / Next Steps task based on a previous SATs question, which requires children to decode a long division word problem using mastery techniques.
