Lesson focussing on language and theme in the poem ‘To a Daughter Leaving Home’. I’ve used it as an introduction to unseen poetry with KS3 but could easily be adapted for KS4; especially as the poem featured in the 2014 English Literature Paper 2 Specimen Paper.

Fully differentiated using Developing, Secure and Mastery levels. Use of self-assessment throughout the allow for students to nominate their own level of challenge. When I have taught this lesson, the use of RAG cards works very well, although simple use of thumbs up/down/halfway would also suffice as AFL.

Match-up table starter also included.
