One of the hardest elements of teaching can be finding good quality resources that don't overcomplicate what you are teaching. I am all about breaking down resources into small steps so children understand whilst also appreciating teachers don't need too much or overcomplicated material to deliver their lessons. End of topic assessment on the Vikings,

This is suitable for children in years 4-6 with a variety of questions presented in different ways.

This covers the key knowledge about the first Viking raids, Danelaw, the Treaty of Wedmore, the importance of York, King Cnut and the end of the Viking Age.

It then gos deeper by asking further questions about longboats, runes and Danelaw.

This assessment also covers key historical skills such as placing events in chronological order, identifying similarities and differences, identifying primary and secondary sources and analysing artifacts.
