Intervention designed for the teaching and improving of vocabulary.
Designed by a Head of Literacy at a secondary school.
Previously worked really well in improving vocabulary.

Focus on a range of Tier 2 words.

The intervention is designed to be repetitive and thorough in the teaching of the new words. It can be used to support Key stage 2, 3 or 4 students.

Structure:
-Introduce new word

  • Learn definition
  • Create flash card for the new word
  • Go through flashcards of all known words with new word added in
  • Fill out Frayer model to support vocabulary consolidation
  • Synonym challenge game

Provided will be a Powerpoint with all new words (over 40), their definitions, synonyms.

The first 2 lessons have notes attached to really easy to follow and plan from. The other lessons provide a blank canvas so students can fill in the Frayer model and make the flashcard as part of the learning process.

Powerpoint and Excel spreadsheet of all the words are included.
