An excellent 13 1/2 minute video covering the life of William Rufus AND the validity and bias of sources concerning his life. The film covers: childhood and family, paucity of sources; youthful fights with brother Robert; king of England, Lanfranc’s guidance and death; failure to appoint an Archbishop, the investiture controversy; taking church money; illness, appointment of Anselm; recovery, Anselm’s voluntary exile. Hostility of Christian sources; alleged homosexuality, contrasted with similar kings. Brothers Henry and Robert in Normandy; Robert joins the First Crusade. William’s death; possible foul play; aftermath; did the sources treat William fairly?
Differentiated! Both versions look very similar but “B” version has subtle clues. 25 questions, right up to the end, no slack time! Question sheet, answer sheet, very easy to mark; all .doc & .pdf. Link to video on all sheets.
Please check that you can access the video before you download these sheets. All the links work when I upload. If my links no longer work, the videos may still be found elsewhere on YouTube etc.
