Writer’s Craft
Beginning readers must be able to think and behave like established, skilled writers. This is why we need to bring them into the world of the writer to observe their skills and technique. The Common Core state standards targets children’s literacy skills especially through the close reading of mentor texts as exemplars of good writing technique. With close reading our kids get to, not only read like writers, but they also get a chance to write like readers. In that way they get to write with a clear view in mind of what they want their readers to get from their piece.
This close reading resource pack contains 30 posters which display some key terms and definitions together with kid-friendly illustrations and examples for the exploration of writer's craft.. Created for kindergarten classrooms, this set can be used in the higher grades as the need may arise.
