This 5 session guided reading unit is all about a balanced argument. The included text is based on reasons for and against school uniform.
Great to study across a week or half term, these sessions are based around reading the text together as a whole class (or group) and predicting, clarifying vocabulary and exploring the text.
Children will build up a knowledge of the features and language used in a balanced argument text.
Learning objectives:
- To identify and explain the features and structure of a balanced argument and to express their own opinion on the topic.
- To compare and contrast different points of view on school uniforms and to use conjunctions to link ideas.
- To analyse the language and techniques used to present the negative aspects of school uniforms and to evaluate the strength of the arguments.
- To evaluate the validity and reliability of the statements in a balanced argument and to justify their own opinion on the topic.
- To summarise the main points of a balanced argument and to write a conclusion that states the writer’s opinion and the reasons for it.
