This is an interim assessment which can be given to any class embarking on the new a level spec from 2017. It covers the topics of basic algebra, surds, index theory and quadratic equations. The assessment itself will last an hour and there is a follow up lesson where students can tackle similar questions. The powerpoint acts as a marck scheme and can be used to assess the piece of work. It can also be played during the feedback lesson to model correct answers for students. Printing it will give students a chance to have a model solution pack to their assessment.
A very basic test that could be knocked together from practise exercises. Not really any challenging questions or questions in the style of the new syllabus. Low maker basic questions.

I am sorry that you feel that this assessment was not what you required. This assessment was created to give a snapshot of the first 3 weeks of teaching in Year 12 and, as you know, the first 3 weeks of any A level maths course covers the basics of manipulation; topics which are not usually given their own question in examination material. Having looked at the sample assessments in Pure maths provided by Edexcel, I cannot see (with the exception of the new content of the course and one or two questions where students are asked to explain what is wrong with the solution presented by a student) where the style of questions used in older style assessments differ from those now being used and there I have to disagree with you. As with the lesson you purchased on related quadratics, I am more than happy for you to request a refund from TES and hope that you can find a seller on TES that makes resources that suit more what you are looking for.
