Year 2 The Day the Crayons Quit Reading Exemplification Moderation Evidence Gathering

If you’re looking for additional evidence towards the end of KS1 reading statements, this document will help you do just that :)

The download includes:

A comprehension booklet full of retrieval and some inference questions. This is 8 pages long, but you’re welcome to use the snipping tool to use particular questions if that’s of more use. You will receive a pdf with clipart and an editable powerpoint version without clipart. The clipart has to be secured within the document so I have had to remove it for the editable version.
Reading assessments linked to the framework. I have included one for each crayon’s letter and have identified which words provide evidence for the word reading statements (common exception words, 2+syllable words, suffixes) There is an additional comment box at the bottom which I recommend using to make explicit comments about the child’s reading fluency, checking for sense etc. I have included a pdf version with clipart and an editable non clipart version.
1 prediction activity. This book doesn’t lend itself well for making predictions at the greater depth standard but I have included one activity for children to complete.
2 x linking texts activities. 1 activity making links between Red Crayon and Blue Crayon’s letter and another linking The Day the Crayons Quit to a text of your choice. This document is editable.
