A full set of editable medium term plans for Year 3 Science.

Each medium plan begins with the National Curriculum requirements to be clear on the intended science learning in Year 3.

This is followed by a table of practical enquiries that will secure full coverage of the National Curriculum requirements with the following headings:

• Big Question & Learning Objective
• Type of enquiry: Observing over time, Fair Test, Comparative Test, Grouping & Classifying, Research and Pattern Seeking
• Skills Focus: to help secure progression in working scientifically for all learners

This is followed by an additional list of enquiries that have been proposed by children in my classes over the years, illustrating the importance of child led enquiry. All have been great fun in the classroom and really effective a securing scientific knowledge and developing skills. There are many enquiries that will enable children to develop the intended scientific understanding, you don’t have to do the same thing every year.

In addition to this, each medium term plan includes cross-curricular links, recommended books for the classroom (Fiction and non-fiction), links to useful free online resources, Health and Safety tips and assessment opportunities.
