In this Year 4 EAL Planning for The Iron Man, students will deepen their understanding of the story while focusing on key Year 1 SPAG objectives. Through engaging activities, they will:

  • Understand Chapter 2 of The Iron Man and use it as the basis for exploring grammar and sentence structure.

  • Identify adjectives within the text and practice replacing them to describe nouns, enhancing their descriptive writing skills.

  • Identify nouns from both the story and their school environment, learning to use nouns effectively in their own sentences.

  • Develop an understanding of expanded noun phrases and practice writing sentences with nouns, adjectives, and the conjunction ‘and’

  • Understand and identify verbs in the story, using them in sentences both verbally and in writing.

  • Use colourful semantics to generate sentences that include both nouns and adjectives, supporting sentence formation and comprehension.

  • Retell Chapter 2 of The Iron Man using clear and descriptive sentences that include nouns and adjectives, structured using colourful semantics.

These activities provide an interactive and structured approach for EAL learners to reinforce their understanding of sentence structure, grammar, and descriptive language, while fostering creativity and enhancing their comprehension of the text.
