These Year 4 maths sheets work on the idea of mastery through repetition.
I often found that the children in my class understood maths concepts whilst we were working on them, but then forgot what to do when we moved on to other topics. I therefore made these sheets which the children keep in folders in their trays. They are given a new sheet(s) at the start of each week and have dedicated time everyday to work on them including morning and afternoon registration, guided maths slots, extension activities in maths lessons, end of the day finishing off time etc.
The sheets could also be used as a one off lesson to leave with a supply teacher, as homework activities or assessments.
Objectives are gradually built up as they are covered and are then repeated each week to aid mastery. Times tables and related division facts are on every sheet due to the focus on for the year 4 test.
The order of units mostly follows the white rose sequence of units:
Term 1 sheets cover: Number and place value, addition and subtraction
(I’ve also included a calculations week sheet)
Term 2 sheets cover: All of the above plus length, perimeter and area, multiplication and division
Term 3 sheets cover: All of the above plus fractions and decimals
Term 4 sheets cover: All of the above plus money and time
Term 5 sheets cover: All of the above plus statistics, geometry - properties of shape and position and direction
Term 6 sheets cover all year 4 objectives.
You will also note there are some year 3 objectives included - these are areas I have found my year 4 classes to often have the most difficulty with and as such I often need to revisit the year 3 objectives first as a precursor (e.g. telling the time)
