Next year is the first time I’m teaching a mixed Year 5/6 class, and teaching maths was my main concern due to the curriculum content per year group. I want to teach the class as a whole as much as possible (as opposed to teaching the year groups separately), so I made this document to see where lessons could be taught together as much as possible. There are some similar documents out there already, but none had quite want I wanted - plus, making it yourself means you can get your head around it a little better!

In ‘Number’, there were a number of opportunities to link the different year group objectives. Where objectives are similar but not similar enough to be merged into the same objective, they have been put in the same colour as (and aligned horizontally with) the linking objective in the other curriculum. All other objectives (that couldn’t be appropriately linked to a similar objective from the other year group) are in black. Hopefully this will make sense when you see the document!

I have also moved a few objectives into other sections of the curriculum where they linked together more easily. For example, take these two objectives from the curriculum…

Year 5 Number - multiplication and division: multiply and divide whole numbers and those involving decimals by 10, 100 and 1,000
Year 6 Number - fractions (including decimals and percentages): identify the value of each digit in numbers given to 3 decimal places and multiply and divide numbers by 10, 100 and 1,000 giving answers up to 3 decimal places

…so I have moved the latter objective into the Number - multiplication and division section of this document in order to show that they could be linked together (this has been indicated on the document to show the objective originally came under a different section).

I have also extracted the Year 5 and 6 content domains from the STA mathematics test framework for easier comparison.
