Summary of passage

Zora Neale Hurston, an African-American author, was born in Alabama in 1891 and grew up in the all-black town of Eatonville, Florida. She had a passion for storytelling and her parents supported her dreams. Despite being one of the few African-American students, she attended Howard University and later became part of the Harlem Renaissance in New York City. Hurston’s most famous book, “Their Eyes Were Watching God,” showcases her unique writing style that incorporates the dialect of her hometown. She also traveled to collect African-American folktales and stories. Although she faced challenges and little recognition during her lifetime, her contributions to literature have made her an important figure in American history. Hurston’s legacy lives on through her widely-read books, teaching the importance of staying true to oneself and telling one’s own stories.
