    Lesson presentations and activities

    • This is a complete lesson plan that I used for an observation lesson. Pupils identify what they already know and then complete similar questions at the end (in purple pen) to (hopefully) demonstrate progress. The activity is differentiated by task. The blockbuster activity is just to give the pupils at the end. Girls versus boys or similar. Dictate some questions and the quickest to show correct answer on mini whiteboards gets to choose a hexagon.

    • These three powperpoints are designed to lead people through multiplying out brackets. I would suggest searching for Alex Bellos' different ways of doing long multiplication on YouTube as they link nicely in with the first bit of the 'Multiplying out 2 brackets' presentation and are a bit of fun too.

    • This takes students through expanding a single bracket, factorising a single bracket, expanding two brackets and factorising quadratic expressions. Hopefully this should lead them in manageable steps to factorising quadratics, including a few with the coefficient of x squared being greater than 1. When I find errors I have corrected them...

    • Pupils have to expand double brackets to generate a quadratic expression. Each expression relats to a letter and the 12 letters can be rearranged to make the phrase REMEMBER FOIL. There is also an extension activity where pupils need to find the deliberate mistake.
