Estimating gradient of curves
Lesson presentations and activities
This is something I produced for my top set Year 11s to cover the new GCSE topic of gradients of curves and area under graphs. Included is a PPT that covers several lessons building from general principles, through velocity-time graphs, to gradients of curves and area underneath them. Also included are examples to match the PPT that can be handed to students for annotation and worksheets for each lesson. The velocity-time graph worksheet is an adaptation of one sent to me so not sure of the original author but happy to credit if told. It all finishes with some exam style questions I've written based on sample assessment material from Edexcel.

Awesome resource, thank for sharing. It's quite maths-y, so I adapted it a bit to make it more Physics-based.

Excellent resource, thank you!
Aimed at pupils studying the IGCSE, this lesson shows them how to estimate the gradient at points on a curve by drawing tangents. Includes a worksheet with answers (I'd strongly recommend they use the scale stated on the horizontal axis, otherwise the graphs get a bit squashed together!) If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! :)

PPT great, however, drawing the graphs and estimating the gradients are two independent skills. The main focus should be estimating the gradients.

Very helpful, thank you !

This has been written for the AQA Linked Pair Pilot - Applications Unit 2. It is about finding gradients at points and areas under curves without calculus. Powerpoint takes students through the process - two of the slides can usefully be printed out as worksheets. Brief notes for usage on each slide.

Great resource
Full lesson with animated examples and worksheets with answers on the topic gradients of curves for the new GCSE 9-1 Specification (R15). The learning objectives are based on Edexcel's teaching guidance, which is where the worksheet exercises were also taken from. I taught this lesson to my top set year 11s, using the note sheet as a template for pupils to write down key words and examples. Please leave a review!

This is another fantastic resource which I have no hesitation in thoroughly recommending.
Practice questions, homeworks and assessments
This is a PPT I made to cover the new GCSE topic of instantaneous and average rates of change by finding the gradient of a tangent of a chord to a curve.
It also includes examples that students can stick in their books that match the ones in the PPT, and a worksheet of exam style questions.Reviews

Brilliant resource. Thank you so much for making it free. For anyone reading this, there are no answers, but good questions and doing your own answers will take no more than 5-10 mins.

Fantastic resource providing lots of practice of finding gradients of tangents and chords. Thanks so much.
This worksheet has been made for the new GCSE specification. Students are given four graphs and are required to find the gradient using a tangent at various points. This worksheet is designed to allow students to practise the skill before moving onto application. Answers are included.
