Lesson presentations and activities
A PPT that goes through how to answer iteration questions for Year 10/11 students on the new GCSE. Finishes with some very tough questions, including a wordier problem. Also includes a bonus Throwback Thursday starter!
Worksheet attached is one I found on the internet, so can't claim credit for that!Reviews

A great resource that's got it all, including some great music to annoy my year 11's with! Thank you :)
In this lesson, students learn what iteration is and see an example of how it was used to calculate square roots of non-square numbers. There is an explanation of the notation involved and students get to try the process out for themselves. Could be used as an introduction to the topic. If you liked this resource, please check out my other stuff on TES!

Practice questions, homeworks and assessments
It used to be quite easy to come up with examples to teach/practise trial and improvement, but using iteration is a very different beast and needs some carefully chosen and prepared questions. This worksheet contains a brief introduction/reminder about iterative formulae and their use in sequences, then has one example of using iteration to find a root of an equation, to work through as a class. The following exercise has 7 questions for students to attempt on their own. Answers are included.

Good to see the notes at the top, getting the students used to the notation. Great question thanks.

Fantastic resources Thanks
A brilliant Tarsia activity by Gill Hillitt on iteration and iterative functions. These type of activities can be used to consolidate understanding of a given topic, and foster positive group work and co-operative learning. For more ideas on how to use these types of activities (including twists!) and to download the latest version of the wonderful free software to open this resource (and create your own), just click on the web-link. This resource manages to turn iteration into a Tarsia puzzle where students have to use the formulae to find the solutions to the equations. To use it, download the Tarsia software (it is free), open it up, then open the puzzle file through it. Could even get students working together to create their own puzzles!

A very nice tarsia activity based on the topic of iteration functions. This resource could be used as a starter/plenary activity in a lesson. It is also ideal as a paired/grouped activity.
